Beating Winter Blues

Every year I feel a bit down on the early days of January. After the excitement of Christmas and New Year have passed, I really don’t feel like doing anything other than watch Netflix in my pyjamas. Winter blues really are a thing and if we don’t pay attention our mood can get seriously affected by the lack of daylight, shorter days and cold weather. Here are 4 easy steps for Beating Winter Blues:

1. Get out of the house: make excuses to go outside even if don’t really need to. Explore a new neighbourhood, go out for coffee, shop at the farmers markets instead of you regular grocery store. When you go out, make an event of it, dress up nicely it will make you feel good about yourself.

2. Force yourself to be social :  get in touch with your friends (social media doesn’t count) they always cheer you up! Invite that old co-worker for coffee, visit the relatives you didn’t meet over Christmas, grab a meal with your besties. Chances are your friends are also feeling a bit blue, so you are doing you both a favour.

3. Stay Active: endorphin is always welcomed! Even if you don’t have a workout routine go out for a walk, specially when it’s sunny. Taking a break over you lunch for a stroll outside will be great not only for your mood but also for your productivity.

4. Explore Winter Activities: find a new winter hobby and look forward to it! Plan a ski/snoboward trip, explore snow shoeing trails or get a group and go ice-skating.

My favourite way to beat the winter blues is to put on a nice winter outfit and go out to discover new cafes and stores. Here is what I wore for a coffee date with Liza!
